Electronic books are called eBooks and they have various digital pages that you can navigate through and you will frequently see them packaged as a PDF file so it’s easier to share. You can read them on a computer, a proper ebook reader, and even mobile devices.
There isn’t a strict rule to follow about organizing the information into an eBook but there are some aspects that you should consider when you write one. Generally, it is very similar to a textbook or novel, it depends on what you’re writing about.
You need to know that an eBook has its own system of supporting images and chapters. Subchapters are very useful to break down the subject under discussion into specific sections, it helps the reader to locate themselves better, just like a blog post.
But, What Can an eBook be About?
There are lots of possibilities here, you name it! eBooks are a common marketer’s way of exposing lots of important information in a form that potential clients are most willing to read, making it more likable to buy. We will give you some eBooks ideas at the end of this article.
But it doesn’t matter what it’s about, you’re always going to do lots of research before effectively writing it. Every user that gets an eBook is looking for the whole story instead of just the critical parts of it. That includes all the testing you went through to produce the eBook and the content.
There are several formats that you can save your eBook, it depends on your end-user! You can choose whatever you feel your audience will enjoy the most. You can pick between PDF, EPUB, AZW, and ODF. EPUB stands for “Electronic Publication” and is the more flexible you will find because EPUB eBooks can reflow their text to adapt to different kinds of devices.
AZW is the type created especially for the Kindle readers. ODF stands for OpenDocument Format that was originally meant for OpenOffice, a series of open-source content like Microsoft Office
Can You Edit an eBook?
The answer is no. It can’t be edited once it has been saved. If you still have the Word file edition, then you can edit on there. This is the way that you know the content will stay the same for every user who gets it. eBooks can be edited ONLY if they are in the editable PDF format which is not common of ebooks that you download or purchase.
How to write an eBook
This is an 11-step process that you should follow. Once you figure out the topic and write it all down, the rest will flow naturally.
1 – Choose a topic that matches your audience’s needs
I recommend you pick a topic that can easily generate income. They need to generate leads for your sales team or sales process. Keep in mind that your eBook doesn’t need to be lengthy, you should write what is needed to effectively educate your audience about your selected topic.
To get your creative juices flowing, here are some examples of eBook titles to consider. (replace “x” with an appropriate number).
- An Introduction to [Insert Industry/Topic]
- X [Insert Industry/Topic] Statistics For Better Decision Making
- Learn From The Best: X [Insert Industry/Topic] Experts Share Insights
- X Common Questions About [Insert Industry/Topic] Answered

2 – Outline each chapter of your eBook.
The introduction is the most important part. No one will continue to read a book if the beginning isn’t catchy. Let your reader know what is the content he will see further, what benefits they can get by reading it? In this section, you need to drown the reader in.
3 – Break down each chapter as you write.
As you are writing the content of each chapter, it’s easier if you break the topic down into smaller sections or bullet points, this way you won’t forget to put everything you have thought about the subject.
Also, keep in mind that each chapter needs to connect with the next one, to make sense. For this to happen, make sure to maintain a consistent structure across each chapter.
4 – Design your ebook
There are many templates available on the internet that you can use to do so. You can get great free templates for your ebook on SlidesGo.com or do a quick search on Google for free templates for eBooks.
5 – Use the right colors
This is very important; this will help to keep the reader entertained. Ideally, the colors should match your brand but it is okay if they don’t. Do a quick Google Search for the Psychology of Colors in Design to learn more about how colors influence consumer behavior.
6 – Incorporate visuals in your ebook
Although images and graphics are hard to get right, they are absolutely necessary. But you can’t just put anything in there, the images and graphics need to assist the reader in understanding what they are reading, it has to be complementary to your text. You can look for great graphics on Freepik.com
7 – Highlight quotes or stats.
As long as they genuinely add content to your eBook it is very valid to insert them on it. To get the attention needed, keep them highlighted.
8 – Place appropriate calls-to-action (CTA) within your ebook
The CTA (Call to Action) is a link or a visual object that invites the visitor to click, taking them to a landing page which will get them further engaged with your company. Use CTAs within your ebook to reconvert your readers and propel them further down your marketing funnel.
- Convert it into a PDF (you just need to save as PDF, there’s nothing detailed about this).
- Create a dedicated landing page for your ebook
A landing page is an internet page that promotes and describes your offer. By doing this, your visitors will find a form where they need to inform their contact information in order to access your eBook. This is how you can transform your visitors into business leads that your sales team can ultimately follow up with. You can use a service such as GroovePages which is a premium sales page builder that is currently free if you click here.
9 – Promote your eBook and track its success
After you’ve done your landing page, the next step is to use that destination URL to promote your eBook across your marketing channels. You can use a service like Bit.ly to see how many people have clicked on your “download ebook” link to keep track.
